Updating Musink
Updating from Musink 1.2
These instructions apply only if you are running Musink 1.2 (e.g. version 1.2.1.2 or 1.2.0.1).
The update from Musink 1.2 to 1.3 is not automatic. This is because:
- Musink 1.3 only formally supports Windows 10 or later
- Musink 1.3 requires a fresh installation that cannot be run automatically
- Uninstalling Musink 1.2 can delete templates that you may have created
If you are running Windows 10 or later you can update your version of Musink.
If you are a Musink Pro customer, this update is free of charge. Musink Pro customers can find a download link in the email they were sent with their purchase information.
Before you update Musink, consider whether you would like to keep any templates you have made in Musink Pro.
Update without templates
If you do not have any templates that you would like to keep, simply uninstall Musink from your computer, then download the newer version of Musink and install it.
Update and keep templates
This topic only applies to Musink Pro.
If you would like to keep templates you have created, you must make a copy of them before uninstalling Musink 1.2.
There are two ways to back up your templates.
Method 1
- Open Musink Pro and select the template editor
- Open the template you would like to keep
- Export this template
- Repeat the above two steps for each template you would like to keep
- Close Musink Pro
- Uninstall Musink Pro
- Download and install the new version of Musink Pro
- Import these templates
Method 2
This method is faster but is for advanced users.
- Press the Windows (start) button
- Type run and press enter
- In the window that appears, type %appdata%
- A window will appear
- There will be a folder called Musink. Copy this folder to another location
- Uninstall Musink
- Download and install the new version of Musink Pro
- Type run and press enter
- In the window that appears, type %appdata%
- Copy the musink folder back into this location. If you are asked if you would like to overwrite any files, select yes
Updating from other versions of Musink
If you are running Musink 1.2, please ignore read the instructions of Updating to Musink 1.3, above.
Musink automatically checks for updates when it is run, every few days. Version 1.0.0.0 does not automatically check for updates. To manually tell Musink to update:
- Click Help from the Menu Bar
- Click Update
- Musink will search for updates and let you know if any are available.
- If an update is available, restart Musink: the update will be applied automatically during the restart.
- If you are told to visit musink.net, you will need to download and install a new version yourself.
- If you are prompted by Windows Security to let changes be made to your computer, click 'allow'
To verify an update worked, check that the version number has changed.
